Planning Your Storage
Space for all of your possessions
You need space for your activities and you also need space for the possessions that go with each activity. With good planning you can include storage for all your possessions right where you need them.
Walk-in and standard closets, built-in cabinets, under-stair spaces, garages, basements, attics, and outbuildings can all be designed to accommodate your storage needs. Laundry rooms and offices, media rooms, exercise rooms, playrooms, hobby rooms, pantries, shops and all need to provide for storage as well as for activity. Incorporating closets into hallways, entryways or landings increases their useful function.
A staging area near an exterior door can provide storage for the things your family takes with them when they go out, such as raincoats, bags, mail and packages, keys, and sunglasses.
A complete list of all the types of things you plan to store in your house can be checked against your design to ensure everything will have a place.
