What Our Clients Have to SayI had no idea what a difference the design of a house could make in your life!
We entered into a contract with Robin and Peter for a design-build project.
We had heard many horror stories from friends and relatives about problems they had
had with their builders. So the option to have Peter design a house to our specifications,
and then actually build it too, seemed the best way to proceed.
In retrospect, we would absolutely choose the same route, and would definitely choose Robin and Peter again.
Peter is an absolute master builder. He is a true craftsman in every sense of the word.
His specialty is designing and building a home that is completely unique, and that exactly
fits the site. Peter's spontaneity and adaptability allowed us to make changes when
we saw fit. Some were our ideas and some were Peter's and Robin's. But in every case,
we discussed them openly and were able to reach a decision that we were all happy with.
Robin is tenacious in her work of researching products and techniques, ordering, scheduling,
planning, and coordinating. Robin has a holistic approach that we really like. She is
completely professional in all her dealings. This meant that changes we made throughout
the project didn't turn out to be surprises. Robin kept in daily email and phone contact
with us throughout the project, so we were always on the same page.
Peter and Robin make an excellent team. Peter is the lead designer and builder, but they both
worked together, and with us, on the creative aspects of the project.
In addition, we developed an easy friendship with them, that we're sure will continue.
When we started, one of the things that I mentioned that I love about our location is the
way the weather is always changing, and how the light hits the water. The way the sky and
air look and feel. The way it IS to be here. Peter captured these feelings, and designed
a home for us that is incomparable.

Robin has been extremely helpful and patient in answering my many questions about the process of obtaining engineering reports, utility approvals, and various other aspects of preparation to build. In fact, some of the questions have been asked more than once, and she has graciously tried to explain it in another way, that I might more easily understand the ramifications of each decision.
I have never had a house built before and have not previously lived on the coast, so Peter's and Robin's suggestions and input about types of siding, roofing, doors, and windows have been particularly helpful. I have received a very liberal education about the ins and outs of building on the coast, including where the winds will blow from during each season, what parts of the house will be most protected, and where I will have rain beating relentlessly down.
Peter was great about taking my few vague ideas of what I would like in a house plan and translating that into something really unique and beautiful. He is wonderful about adapting his plan to specific things that you may decide on later. For instance, we had the design and plans nearly completed when he mentioned how plain the front entry looked in comparison to the rest of the house. With a few quick strokes, he had created an additional sidelite and an unusual window above the door. It made all the difference in the presentation of the house.
In addition, Robin is very specific about each item in the house—including lighting, heating, appliances, etc.—so that when she puts together the cost estimate, it will be as accurate as possible. To me, a cabinet is a shelving unit with a couple of shelves, a drawer or two, and some doors. To Robin, it is a style, a finish, type of doors, knobs or pulls, shelves or drawers, and other possible accessories. She is very gifted at making you think about what you really like and whether certain things are important to you or not.
I have not seen the finished product since we are still in the planning stages, but I am certain that the house will be beautiful (Peter's design); functional (Robin's good sense); and a lovely, workable whole (a combination of Peter and Robin's individual expertise).

Once the remodel phase kicked-in, we were thrilled with the amount of time Peter spent assuring the job was completed correctly. We found Peter to be exacting and appreciated his ability to work with the different subcontractors to ensure the job was finished to his expectations, which were never lower than ours. The property was always well-maintained; we never had to worry about trash, foul language, or loud music. To this day, there is nothing that we would change. I attribute this to your and Peter's willingness to discuss ideas, provide input and make changes as necessary.
Throughout the remodel, I appreciated your detailed accounting practices and frequent communication which kept us appraised of where money was spent in order for us to better understand the services received. Having never gone through a remodel before, I was hesitant about how this would work and, looking back, I couldn't imagine a better system. Buck and I can't thank you enough for the wonderful experience and beautiful home.

Peter normally builds the homes he designs and puts a lot of attention into small details. He has very high standards. Robin manages the projects, and her administration is impeccable. Everything is itemized, so it is easy to see where every penny goes.
I have now been living in my Peter Asher designed home for almost a year. It is such a joy. I had no idea what a difference the design of a house could make in your life! To come home and be happy just because the space is aesthetic is wonderful. Peter did a great job.

We wanted a house that was livable, aesthetically pleasing, functional, had spectacular views, and was timeless ... Fifty years from now, the house Peter built for us will be just as beautiful because of the windows, the design, and the beams. Peter's strongest points are envisioning the way the design will be and being so meticulous about the way it is all designed and finished the way the miters on the wood fit together, the perfectionism of the joints, and Peter's idea of enclosing the beams in cedar.
We appreciated your honesty, and that you always kept track of where we were financially, so we knew what the extra costs were as we went along and there were no huge surprises.

The Peter and Robin team is one of perfection, as Peter begins with his
imagination and mathematical designs, Robin applies her seamless support.
I knew immediately after they began construction that this wasn't a person
looking to make money on me, but someone who had pride in his work - and
that is what makes the difference. Peter was there every step of the way,
allowing me to make minor changes while in production and helping me see the
final product.
This small addition completely changed the look and feel of the house. I
still get compliments after months of being completed about how beautiful
the front of my house looks. The best thing about Peter Asher Designs, is
not their work, but the love and pride they put into it. It shows with
every board they put up and every layer of paint they apply. I would
recommend Peter Asher Designs to anyone who is building a custom home or
just adding on to an existing one. I have already commissioned them to
build my next home!! You will no longer have to fear contracting, Peter
Asher Designs will make it easy and comforting to you.
